Unibet Review
Unibet have been one of Irelands most successful exports in the betting industry, and there have been a few attempts from Irish over the years. The company have worked relentlessly on becoming as strong a brand as they can be and over the last few years their hard work has started to pay off. It will be fair to say that the brand was probably better known for their poker forays in the early stages on their existence, but now that’s flipped and it’s sports betting that leads the way.
Unibet were first launched way back in 1997, which actually makes them one of the oldest bookmakers going, believe it or not. The company haver had strong financial showings over this time and in 2015 they reported an estimated revenue figure of £350milllion, a stunning achievement.
Whilst they are very much Irish at heart, they are actually based out of Malta these days, although they do hold offices in Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Italy and the UK. They are fully licensed by the UK Gambling Commission.
Sports Betting
Unibet are one of those bookmakers that just love to pack in their features. One of their latest trails has been to bring in a number of high profile sports persons to represents and work with the brand to create some unique content. For example, the upcoming Euro 2016 tournament sees the arrival of Glenn Hoddle on to the team to provide some expert analysis on bets that he thinks offer good value. It’s these kind of insights that are usually out of reach for the average punter, but Unibet see fit to get these ex and even current professionals involved to provide insight into matches.
Next up we have to mention their live streaming section, which is arguably their most powerful feature to date. They claim to offer up over 40,000 events streamed every year, which even trumps the likes of Sky Sports on that front. Whilst live streaming certainly isn’t a new feature to the online betting industry, there are still very few that actually offer this, which really does set a bookmaker like Unibet apart from the crowd.
Their mobile app has come under heavy criticism in the past for not being up to scratch, but their latest version of the app has been a raving success. The app can be downloaded on both iOS and Androids devices, making it as compatible as you’re going too get.
Finally, whilst not feature as such, we wanted to point out that Unibet currently have a player database of over 14million people underlining just how successful they have been over the years. You really cant get these sorts of number by pure luck and its clear from we have seen that the hard work and the lull that they went through a few years ago has paid off and they seem back on track to be one of the best.
What Happened to… Stan James?
Stan James was one of a handful of successful British high street bookmakers who embraced the telephone betting and online gaming advancements to great effect. Established back in 1973, they claimed to be synonymous with in-running betting, and put a lot of resources into that area of their offering.
The online and high street arms of the business were split into separate products – the web based betting service became known as ‘Stan James Online’ and was acquired by Unibet in 2015 whilst the betting shops rebranded to Megabet. For a few years Stan James Online continued to operate as a separate brand but closed in 2018 and all customers were migrated to Unibet.
